Get started with Speecher

Not sure how to get the best out of Speecher? Here we will go through each training module.

How does Speecher work?

Speecher consists of 3 training modules that should be consistently used to secure an outstanding performance during meetings, presentations, interviews, speeches and pitches. There are a few options in the market that train your English-speaking skills with games and challenges; Speecher was designed to prepare you for actual speaking events and puts your skills to test with other people and speech recognition technology. The ONLY way you will improve is by getting REAL FEEDBACK.

The Speecher training modules are the following:

1. Speecher Community

The free version of Speecher allows you to get honest feedback from the Speecher community. Today, the Speecher community consists of users from over 90 countries. This cultural diversity enriches the quality of comments you will receive on your community posts. If you want to take a next step in improving your speech delivery skills and body language, you can subscribe to Speecher Pro (7-day free trial) and send videos, apart from text and audio.

To start, go to the Community tab and select “Get free community feedback”. Type in a brief description of what you need help with (for example: Hi community, I am recording a short answer to “Tell me a little bit about yourself” and will greatly appreciate your feedback on how I am answering). Tap the microphone and then the red record button. Hit pause when you are done. If you want to continue recording, tap the little white circle and hit pause again when finished. Make sure to tap the green check when finalized. Select the camera icon if you have Speecher Pro and want to add a video as well. You can preview the audio and video before deciding to tap on Send. You will get notified when you receive feedback. You can also send general questions to the community without attaching audio or video.

Give feedback to other users as well. Believe it or not, giving feedback to others helps greatly to improve your skills.

2. Speech Recognition

Memory is an important part of speech delivery. In this module you will keep track of key points you forgot to mention, your pace and use of filler words (words such as “like” and “uhm” that should be minimized).

To get started, select the Train tab and select if you would like to train for an Interview, Pitch, Presentation (add slides) or Speech. Do not worry if you do not have one of these events coming soon. You can simulate with typical interview questions or present any topic you are comfortable with. After selecting the event type, select Speech Recognition. Tap on “Add first question/slide/section”. Under “Name” type in the text you would like to appear when you start recording. For example, if it is the first slide of a presentation, type in “Introduction”. Under “Response”, type in what you want to ideally respond. There is no need to type in every word you plan to say; it is sufficient to only include key points you cannot miss to mention, such as places, titles, names and numbers. For example, instead of typing “I am an industrial engineer with experience in banking”, type in “industrial engineer banking”. Select “Done” and add another question/slide/section if needed. When finished, select “Continue”. Decide if you want each question/slide/section to appear in random order and click the red record button to start recording your answers.

After hitting record, the titles of the questions/slides/sections will start appearing. A chronometer will appear to time your answers (this can be hidden if you prefer). Hit “Next” until you have finished answering to everything. You can listen to your recordings before sending. When ready, select the English type you want to be analyzed (US, British, Indian, etc.) and select “Send”.

You now have the results of your training. A brief summary will appear, and you can enter the detail of each question/slide/section by tapping on the title. You will be able to hear your recording (with visual sound waves), view a transcript, view key words or points missed, filler words used and your pace.

Make sure to continue practicing to improve your memory, pace and minimization of filler words.

3. Speecher Challenges

You start as a Mandrill and can evolve into an Orangutan. The challenges mainly include quotes, speeches and lyrics from famous people. They increase in difficulty and you get extra points if you memorize the responses. There are 3 types of challenges:

  1. Speech recognition: Record your response and you will get a score depending on your pace, key words missed and use of filler words.
  2. Community voice: Record your response and the Speecher Community will give you feedback on your speech delivery.
  3. Community video: Record a video of yourself reading or memorizing the response and the Speecher Community will give you feedback on your speech delivery, including body language. This may be intimidating at first, but it is the only way to make sure you become a master of speech. The feedback you get is the following:

    a) Use of simple language any person can understand
    b) Conciseness
    c) Clarity
    d) Use of pauses
    e) Grammar
    f) Posture
    g) Likeability
    h) General comments
    i) General score

You will get extra points if you give feedback to others in the community. Ready to make it to the top of the leaderboard?

Both Speech Recognition and Speecher Challenges are available with Speecher Pro and you have a 7-day free trial period to try each module.

Start training right away. Practice speaking about your favorite hobbies or what you enjoyed about your last trip. When the moment comes to train for an important event, having practiced beforehand will certainly give you an edge.
